Jovens Tardes Project
When life slows down, affection, art, and joy find their rhythm.
The Jovens Tardes Project is an original initiative of Instituto Guirlanda (Instituto Anderson Furtado), created to promote development, social interaction, and well-being among older adults. The project is grounded in the understanding that aging with quality of life involves movement, expression, connection, and a sense of belonging.
More than weekly activities, Jovens Tardes creates welcoming spaces where stories are shared, bonds are strengthened, and joy once again becomes a central part of participants’ daily lives.
Movement, art, and connection
The project offers weekly ballroom dance classes and visual arts activities, such as painting and sculpture, designed to stimulate the body, mind, and emotions. Dance enhances mobility, coordination, rhythm, and self-confidence, while artistic practices encourage creativity, sensitivity, and cognitive development, opening new paths for personal expression.
All activities are conducted with respect for each participant’s pace, limits, and abilities, fostering a safe, welcoming, and caring environment.
The Jovens Tardes Dance Ball: memory, celebration, and empowerment
One of the most meaningful moments of the project is the Jovens Tardes Dance Ball, held monthly. Inspired by the “Jovem Guarda” era, the event revives music, rhythms, and emotional memories that spark joy, connection, and a sense of belonging.
During this special gathering, participants have the opportunity to put their dance classes into practice, celebrating movement, togetherness, and the joy of being present.
At the same event, an exhibition showcases the artworks created by participants in the visual arts classes, highlighting their talents, strengthening self-esteem, and promoting active participation and protagonism in later life.
Emotional, cognitive, and social well-being
The Jovens Tardes Project directly supports the emotional, psychological, and cognitive well-being of older adults. By encouraging social interaction, artistic expression, and physical movement, the project helps reduce social isolation, improve mood, expand social relationships, and preserve autonomy.
Each meeting is a reminder that life remains full of possibilities — at any age.
A project that values time and people
Jovens Tardes is more than a cultural project.
It is a space of care.
It is an invitation to connection.
It is proof that joy, art, and movement have no expiration date.
Because being young is not a matter of age — it is a way of living.
