Funcional Longevidade Project

Movement, care, and connection for living longer and better

The Funcional Longevidade Project is an initiative of Instituto Guirlanda (Instituto Anderson Furtado) dedicated to promoting health, well-being, and quality of life through physical activity and social connection. The project takes place regularly in the neighborhood of Bangu, every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7:00 a.m., with completely free participation.

Open to adults of all ages, Funcional Longevidade primarily serves older adults, who are welcomed with respect, attention, and care. The project is grounded in the understanding that healthy aging goes far beyond physical exercise—it involves connection, listening, belonging, and affection.

Movement as a tool for autonomy and health

Funcional Longevidade activities are held outdoors, in a space with synthetic grass, providing a safe, pleasant, and stimulating environment for participants. The exercises are designed to strengthen the body, improve balance, mobility, endurance, and daily autonomy, always respecting individual limits and needs.

As a fundamental part of care, the project conducts periodic health assessments to monitor participants’ progress over time. This follow-up makes it possible to observe physical improvements, prevent risks, and adjust activities responsibly, promoting safer and more active aging.

Connection, care, and a sense of belonging

Funcional Longevidade recognizes that emotional and social health is just as important as physical health, especially in later life. For this reason, Instituto Guirlanda hosts a monthly community breakfast, creating moments of connection, conversation, and strengthened bonds among participants.

These gatherings encourage social interaction, reduce isolation, and reinforce a sense of belonging—key elements for quality of life and mental well-being in older adulthood.

Professionals who care with responsibility and compassion

The coordination of the Funcional Longevidade Project is led by Magno da Silva, a former professional football player and a Physical Education undergraduate student. Magno brings his sports experience together with strong social commitment, working closely with participants through encouragement, attention, and care.

The technical execution of activities is overseen by Letícia Oliveira, a Physical Education professional who plans and conducts exercises with competence, sensitivity, and responsibility, ensuring safety, quality, and adaptation to the diverse physical conditions of participants.

A project that values every stage of life

Launched in March 2025, the Funcional Longevidade Project has been consolidating itself as a space of comprehensive care, where movement meets affection and social connection becomes health.

More than an exercise program, Funcional Longevidade is an invitation to live the present with vitality, dignity, and joy—at any age.

Because caring for the body is important.
But caring for people is essential.
